DEEP Residential Design Competition

The DEEP project is designed based on the principle of Mass & Void, a fundamental element found in various art forms. In this design, two solid masses (Mass) are positioned adjacent to each other in a rectangular layout, with an open void space between them to create private areas for the residents.

This open space not only provides privacy but also maintains a seamless connection with other parts of the house. For example, the gap between the staircase and the exterior wall is filled with greenery to enhance comfort and bring freshness to the environment. Large glass doors are used to create a smooth transition between the interior and exterior, allowing natural airflow and maximizing the efficient use of space.

The central hall is designed as a double-volume space with a skylight, resulting in an open, airy atmosphere that promotes good air circulation and allows 100% natural daylight to flood the interior.

Material-wise, DEEP features Snap Lock metal roofing, which offers versatility in application — whether as the building’s envelope or as a facade, acting as the “face” of the house. Its color and texture harmonize well with other honest materials used in the project. The metal roofing is also crafted into screening louvers and exterior ceiling panels by cutting and folding the ribs lengthwise between two ridges, creating elegant light fixtures within the gaps.

These materials not only present an inherent aesthetic appeal but also establish a cohesive architectural flow, connecting the house and its occupants. This design fosters both happiness and architectural beauty, making the living experience truly enriching.
